100 days of school project idea - Texas map with plastic caps...

My son has to do something for his 100 days of school. So I thought to help him doing that he enjoys and some thing creative. So I came up with this cute and recycling project idea. I was saving all my caps from milk cans(both cow's milk jugs and soy milk cartons), and was lucky I already have more that 100.

I used
1. paint of 3 colors. Texas flag colors - Blue, red and white.
2. Hot glue
3. a foam sheet.
4. a paper star.

Steps:

First I had one texas map and printed it at home as a poster(2x2), then I traced it placing on foam sheet to make impression.

Then,I drew according to the impression.

Now I arranged all the caps to see how they fit perfetly for the shape.

Then divide them according to the flag colors.

Color the caps accordingly.

Now using hot glue, Stick them to the foam sheet, place the star on it.
I added a simple border with some caps and a compass.
Voila.....

its done.( caps in texas and border and compass all together 100)

Freezer paper stencil for fabric painting

Yesterday I brought a white t-shirt for my son and he started complaining that he did not like that shirt at all.....
I asked him the reason for that and he told it is just a plain white shirt, and it did not have any pic on it. So I thought and said him why not we paint a pic on your shirt and then you can wear it. So he became so excited and agreed to that idea. So now it's time for him to choose a pic and he wanted to paint that pic all by himself. Now it's a problem for me...then I remembered the article I read on Pintrest, how we can make stencils from Freezer paper and do fabric painting...so we tried that and it really came out well....and he is happy to wear that shirt...he is happy and so I am happy...after all that's all that matters right...

Items we used

  • Freezer paper
  • A train picture(that's what my son liked)
  • scissors to cut
  • Iron (to temporarily stick freezer paper to the fabric)
  • Fabric color
  • 3D Liner
  • Sponge (to paint)
  • Empty Cereal box(to protect other side of the fabric)
  • T-shirt(of course!!!)

Here is what we did...

  1. Pre-wash the fabric and dry the fabric to remove any chemicals.
  2. Iron the fabric to remove wrinkles.
  3. choose a pic of your choice and print it on normal paper.
  4. Now place the freezer paper on the pic and trace it.
  5. Now cut the pic
  6. Place the glossy side of freezer paper on the fabric and iron it for 30 sec. It will stick to the fabric.
  7. Take an empty cereal box and make it flat. Put that in between two layers of fabric.
  8. Now it's time to paint. Use the sponge and paint it inside the pic.( my son did this part all by himself...and he was very happy with that)
  9. Remove the freezer paper.
  10. using the out liner decorate your pic.
  11. let it dry for 24 hrs. then its ready to wear....

Giraffe Pencil holder with dish cleaner bottle

Today I finished my dish cleaning liquid and was about to throw the bottle in the trash....then i just thought why not reuse it and make something for my kid's desk....

I removed the labels and then i cleaned and dried it. I made this cool giraffe pencil holder and my son loved it....he is already using it....
here is how i made that..

Items

1. Empty dish cleaner bottle(cleaned and dried)
2. hot glue
3. cardboard cut in shape of oval
4. scissors
5. glass stones
6. spray paint
7. craft knife
8. Sharpie marker/Dry erase board pen
9. empty milk jug

How to make!!!

1. Using hot glue stick the glass stones on the cardboard. Basically we have to cover the cardboard completely. This makes the base for the pencil holder. The stones give some weight at the base and avoid flip overs.

step 2
Remove the top part of the dish cleaner bottle and spray yellow color paint.

step 3
Cut a rectangle from empty milk jug and draw head of giraffe.
and body on separate rectangle.

step 4.
Cut the shape and spray yellow color.

Step 5
draw spots on giraffe with sharpie marker/black dry erase pen. and fill them in.

Step 6
Do the same with body part.

Step 7
Repeat the same for bottle.

step 8
Attach all three parts with hot glue.

Step 9
Attach this with the base we made out of cardboard.

Step 10
Its all done. Place your pencils and marker...enjoy!!!
